KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Lee’s Summit man angry about comments another man made online has been charged with two crimes in connection with a non life-threatening shooting Tuesday.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday that Robert R. Graham, 37, has been charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action after allegedly shooting another man in the foot at his house.
According to court documents, the unidentified man was driven to Lee’s Summit Medical Center by a good Samaritan with a gunshot wound to his foot.
He told police he worked with Graham.
Another coworker picked him up at his house Tuesday and drove him to Graham’s residence at the corner of Chipman Road and Olive Street.
The shooting victim went inside Graham’s house for a conversation and took a seat in the bedroom.
After saying he was angry about things that had been posted online, Graham left the room and returned with a “410 sawed off shotgun,” which he initially pointed at the victim’s head.
The victim moved the barrel from his face before Graham pointed it at his foot and pulled the trigger. He then reloaded the shotgun and threatened to shoot the victim again if “if you don’t get out of my house and quit talking (stuff)” online.
The victim ran from the house and tried to enter the coworker’s vehicle outside the residence. That person drove away, so the shooting victim started walking southbound on Olive Street before a woman picked him up and drove him to the hospital.
After responding to the hospital on the reported shooting, police searched Graham’s residence, where a disassembled shotgun and spent shell casing were located along with additional live rounds.
Graham admitted to speaking with the shooting victim that day, but asked for an attorney when police asked about the shooting.
Graham faces five to 15 years on the assault charge and up to three years for armed criminal action.
Prosecutors have requested a $50,000 bond.
Graham previously pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and contempt of court in 2011, domestic violence and contempt of court in 2014 and a peace disturbance in April 2019, according to online courts records.
