KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Missouri State Highway Patrol said they were helping Cass County sheriff's deputies who were responding to a disturbance when a Garden City, Missouri, man armed with a knife was shot and killed.
Both agencies responded to a scene near Main and 3rd streets in Garden City around 10:25 p.m. on Saturday night.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, when troopers arrived they found 35-year-old Richard Jones armed with a knife. He refused to drop the weapon and charged towards a trooper at which time the troopers shot him.
Jones, who was identified Sunday afternoon, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No troopers were hurt. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating.
