Olathe man charged in crash that killed teen girl last August

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Olathe man was charged in the death of a 17-year-old girl in a traffic crash last summer.

Johnson County Prosecutors announced Thursday that Eric Hoedl, 42, has been charged with second-degree murder or, in the alternative, involuntary manslaughter.

The crash happened Aug. 2, 2020, at the intersection of South Hedge Lane and West Larkspur Street in Olathe.

Hoedel was driving a pickup truck and suffered minor injuries, according to a police news release after the incident.

The victim, Jade Burkhart, was driving a car. She was entering her senior year of high school.

No other information about the crash has been released.
