Overland Park councilman charged with domestic battery

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Overland Park councilman was charged in Johnson County with domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

According to court documents, Scott Hamblin, who represents the city's Sixth Ward, caused "physical contact with a person in a rude, insulting, or angry manner" in an incident that occurred Tuesday.

A $1,000 bond was set for Hamblin, 42, which came with conditions that include no contact with the victim or the victim's residence or place of employment for 72 hours.

He had been released from jail late Wednesday afternoon.

Hamblin has no prior criminal history, according to court documents. He was elected last November and has been serving on the Overland Park City Council since January.

Hamblin is scheduled to be back in court on Sept. 16.
