Overland Park police exchange gunfire with burglary suspect

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police in Overland Park exchanged gunfire with an alleged burglary suspect on Christmas morning.

Around 5 a.m., police were notified of an alarm at a building located at 9294 Metcalf.

When police arrived, they determined a burglary had occurred and searched the area for a suspect.

Police eventually located a possible suspect, who fled officers on foot. While fleeing, the suspect allegedly opened fire on officers, prompting officers to return fire.

No officers were struck by gunfire, and police eventually took the suspect into custody.

The suspect, who was also uninjured, was taken to the Johnson County, Kansas, Adult Detention Center.
