KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two Peculiar police officers were shot Saturday night, but were treated and released from the hospital.

Police responded to the area of Interstate 49 and Southeast Outer Road in Peculiar near the Flying J on an armed subject around 8:30 p.m.

Two officers found a man with a shotgun. Shots were exchanged, wounding both officers. The man was not hurt.

Members of the Cass County Sheriff's Office and the Kansas City Police Department also went to the scene. The suspect was taken into custody around 10:30 p.m.

I-49 southbound at J Highway was shut down for roughly one hour.

Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with traffic control.

Both officers were treated and released from the hospital.
