UPDATE, May 8 | The Community Services League shared the identity of the employee who died after being hit by a vehicle Monday while cleaning up trash on U.S. Highway 50.

In a social media post Friday, CSL said the organization is remembering Beverlie Allen for her caring spirit and dependability.

"The job fit her interests well. Her whole life, she has helped picked up trash, along with wanting to recycle and repurpose items," CSL said on social media. "She was dependable, on time and a great crew member."

Allen joined the CSL roadside liter team in June 2025.

She also had a passion for the Kansas City Renaissance Festival, promoting the event and serving at it for years.

A celebration of life is being scheduled for a later date.

ORIGINAL REPORT, May 4 | A pedestrian doing trash cleanup was struck and killed on U.S. 50 Highway near Milton Thompson Road on Monday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says shortly before 9 a.m., a cleanup crew was picking up trash on the side of 50 Highway when a truck struck and killed a pedestrian.

On Monday afternoon, the Community Services League of Kansas City announced the pedestrian was a CSL employee working on a roadside litter crew.

"The employee's colleagues and the entire CSL organization are devastated by this tragedy," CSL President and CEO Doug Cowan said in a social media post Monday. "They will be remembered by the incredible impact they had on our entire community."

Traffic was diverted at Todd George Road until the roadway reopened shortly before noon.

MSHP said the truck driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
