Police investigate homicide Wednesday night in northeast Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police in Kansas City, Missouri, are investigating a homicide that happened just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday night near Independence Avenue and Olive Street.

Officers responded to the scene and located a victim suffering from trauma injuries.

The man — identified Thursday as 30-year-old Abdullahi Yussuf — was transported to an area hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

It wasn't immediately clear what led to the violence.

This marked the fifth homicide in Kansas City this week.

Police initially said the victim had been shot.
