UPDATE, March 20 | Police have identified the victim as Dickens Taima, 52.
EARLIER | Kansas City, Missouri, police are investigating a fatal beating that happened Wednesday in the 2000 block of Linwood Boulevard.
The homicide, which is the fourth KCPD has investigated this week, occurred in an apartment in the area.
The incident happened shortly before 2:45 p.m. and the victim, who police have not yet identified, was declared dead at the scene.
A person of interest in the case has been detained and homicide detectives are working on the case, but there are not believed to be other suspects at this time.
There have now been 32 homicides in Kansas City in 2023, which is a similar pace to the last three years — the deadliest in city history.
