INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Detectives are trying to identify a man who they say stole cigars and fired a gun at a 7-Eleven store manager’s feet.

Independence police said the aggravated assault happened at the 7-Eleven at 11001 E. 23rd Street.

A customer told the store manager the man pictured above hid cigars and left without paying for them.

The suspect went back into the store, and the store manager confronted him. Independence police said the suspect told the manager he would pay for the cigars and they were outside near the dumpster.

The manager followed the man outside, and the two began arguing.

Police said the suspect faced the manager and pulled out a gun from his waistband. Police said the suspect pointed the gun at the manager’s feet and fired one round into the ground. The suspect then walked away from the 7-Eleven.
