UPDATE: One charged in string of armed robberies in KCMO

UPDATE: A 27-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with a series of robberies Wednesday in Midtown KCMO. Derrick Sims faces charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.

According to court records, Kansas City police were responding to reports of armed street robberies in the area of 41st to 43rd, Main to Oak streets, when they saw a the suspect walking west on 41st toward Main Street. He was covered in blood. A search of him uncovered a brown wallet, an iPhone and $969 in cash, as well as keys. They also found nearby a vehicle that matched the description of the one used during the robberies. His keys fit the door of the vehicle and unlocked it. One victim had reported to police that he had more than $490 that was taken from him by a man brandishing a handgun in the area of 43rd and McGee. The victim of one of the robberies identified the defendant. In one of the robberies, the robber and his victim struggled over the gun used in the robbery.

Prosecutors have requested a bond of $75,000 cash.

The robberies remain under investigation.

Police are investigating four armed robberies in Kansas City, and they reportedly all happened within minutes of each other.

At least two suspects are in custody.

During one robbery a suspect fired his weapon at the ground. No one was hit. At least two victims were hit in the head with a gun. They suffered minor injuries.

The incidents happened at 41st and Main; 43rd and Warwick; 43rd and McGee; and 43rd and Walnut.

Police believe all of these incidents are connected.
