KANSAS CITY, Mo. - KCPD is looking for a man who tried to abduct a 14 year-old girl in the Northland.
“I started to run faster because I was concerned and he started to run after me and grabbed me from behind and bear hugged me. I was able to turn around and kick him in between his legs. He dropped me and I ran around the school in order to get home,” said Amaiya McKeithen.
Amaiya recounts what happened while on a morning run. Moments earlier she was with her mom.
“With so many families outside running around, biking, you would think during the day you would be more safe but that is not the case,” said Sheka McKeithen.
Amaiya says the man started yelling at her.
She described him as a tall Hispanic man with a goatee. She said he had on a long sleeve white shirt with blue stripes, a fisherman hat and black shorts.
“My father and mother taught me multiple tactics to get away if a situation like this were to arise. My second thought was don’t run straight home because that could put your family in danger,” said Amaiya.
Her dad Reggie was sleep at home. He posted what his daughter told him happened on Facebook to alert other parents.
“My daughter told me there were multiple children in that vicinity. So many I could share with other neighbors please get your children away. Maybe someone else would not have the same outcome we did,” said Reggie.
Reggie is former law enforcement. Amaiya says she was lucky to have gone through thrashing for things like this.
She hopes police find the man before he does this again.
“I want him to be found so not only there can be justice but that everyone else that was walking, it doesn't happen to someone who maybe doesn’t have the resources I have to be taught to get away or make a struggle to make as much as a fight as possible.”
