KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local auto repair shop in Waldo is out tens of thousands of dollars after thieves broke down the shop's back door late Saturday night.

And if it wasn't for a trail of oil, the owner of London Motorworks would not have known about the robbery sooner.

"I didn't even notice anything out of place when I came in Sunday. When I was leaving, I found a trail of oil," owner Tim London told 41 Action News. "It was significant enough for me to say, 'oh I need to go back inside and see what car that was from.' And then I realized it was from a car I had not even worked on yet."

Inside the shop, London discovered someone had bashed in his back door. Then, he discovered that six car keys were gone.

"It's definitely heartbreaking," said London.

Whoever broke into the shop took the keys, multiple tools, a roll-around battery charger, a $10,000 scanner, several sets of new wheels and tires as well as two cars needing repairs. The estimated value-- over $30,000 worth of items.

Since Sunday, London has installed security cameras and an alarm system. Kansas City Police have also recovered one of the stolen cars.

Anyone with information is asked to call Kansas City Police.
