Two Topeka teens charged in Lawrence double shooting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lawrence, Kansas, police announced Saturday that two 17-year-olds from Topeka have been arrested in connection with a double shooting Friday near the Holcom Park Recreation Center.

Benson J. Edwards, 17, and Sahavione K. Caraway, 17, were booked into the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center and charged with aggravated robbery.

Police were called to a disturbance shortly before 5 p.m. Friday in the 2700 block of West 27th Street and discovered two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

An unidentified 18-year-old had life-threatening injuries and an unidentified 16-year-old was in serious condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said both shooting victims were stable Saturday, but the 18-year-old remained in critical condition.

After witnesses provided a suspect vehicle description at the scene, and with help from the Kansas Highway Patrol, police stopped a car and arrested Edwards and Caraway in connection with the incident.
