Video surveillance helps police solve Kansas City killing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is charged with murder after he was spotted on surveillance video before, during and after the killing in Kansas City, Missouri, according to court records.

Darren D. Hamilton, 25, of KCMO, was charged in Jackson County court with second-degree murder and armed criminal action.

He accused of shooting and killing Earl Finch III on Jan. 5 in the driveway of a house in the 4900 block of Walrond Avenue.

Detectives found surveillance video at a nearby house that showed two men, including Hamilton, drive by the victim's house in a Chevrolet Impala with a large dent on the rear bumper, according to court records.

The two got out of the car and walked up to the victim.

They shot him several times, got back in the car and drove off, court records state.

Police learned Hamilton and his partner in the killing had been arrested together in another case.

Hamilton told detectives he was the passenger in the Chevrolet Impala, court records state.

He also told police he used a .45-caliber handgun to shoot the victim after Hamilton's partner also shot the man.
