Warsaw, Mo. police chief shot during altercation

UPDATE 11 a.m. | The Missouri Highway Patrol says the officer was treated and released from a local hospital.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in Columbia, Mo.

EARLIER | WARSAW, Mo. – Law enforcement is investigating after a shooting Friday morning in Warsaw, Mo., about 100 miles southeast of Kansas City.

The Benton County, Mo. Sheriff’s Department tells 41 Action News that Warsaw, Mo. Police Chief Jason Wenberg spotted a suspect wanted for stealing a car around 9 a.m. Friday.

The suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile, shot at the police chief, striking him in the bullet-proof vest. 

Wenberg returned fire, striking the suspect.

The officer’s injuries are not life-threatening.

The suspect was seriously injured in the shooting.
