Water park murder conviction sends man to prison for 23 years

A KC man convicted in the death of a 19-year-old will spend the next 23 years in prison.

A judge Friday sentenced Divonte Lewis, 25, to 23 years in prison for the May 16, 2015, killing of Ryshun Bell at the Coco Key Water Resort in Kansas City.

Lewis was sentenced to 23 years on his 2nd-degree murder conviction and 10 years on his armed criminal action conviction. The judge set those sentences to run concurrently, according to a news release from the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office. 

A second person was shot, but survived.

Court documents state Lewis began arguing with one of the victims.

That victim tried to leave, but a second argument happened in the main entrance to the park. Lewis pulled out a gun and began firing.
