KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One woman is dead after being shot Wednesday at an intersection in Polo.

The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:11 a.m. to an unnamed intersection, according to a news release, where the woman was found suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A male suspect brandishing a weapon had fled the scene toward a “nearby wooded area,” the release stated.

Officers located the suspect, a 35-year-old Lawson man, east of Polo after a “lengthy manhunt.” He is being held at the Caldwell County Detention Center awaiting formal charges.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, Polo police, Clinton County Sheriff's Office, Tri-County Regional SWAT Team, Canadian Pacific Railroad police and the state Department of Conservation assisted in the search.
