Jim Kilroy will never forget the early morning hours of Sept. 16, lives changed forever, along with his business as well. Now the bar owner is hoping a new arrest brings some comforting closure.
"Not only do I think about the guys' family, ya know that he left behind. I think about all the pressure and scrutiny that people put on me since that happened,” said Kilroy, owner of The Roxy, a bar located at 75th and Metcalf in Overland Park.
Kilroy is from the area and chose to setup business in Johnson County partly because of its lack of crime. Sept. 16 changed all sense of security after a frequenter and part-time performer named Jurl Carter was gunned down in the parking lot outside the nightclub shortly after 1 a.m.
Now, more than three months later, a reliable source with Johnson County law enforcement confirmed to 41 Action News that an arrest has been made in connection to the homicide outside The Roxy on Sept. 16 and that the bond is set at $15 million.
Law enforcement won’t release the name of the suspect in custody due to a seal order by the court. It is believed the suspect’s first court appearance will be Monday.
Kilroy says he’s relieved and hopes business picks back up soon.
"Hopefully this brings some resolution to it and people start feeling a little bit safer, we can get some crowds back in here,” said Kilroy.
