KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The toll on the country’s restaurants and food service workers has been dramatic, but there are local companies working to make a difference.

River Market’s Bloom Bakery has evolved its business in just a few weeks to now offer all-day meal kits. The kits allow customers to make just one order — and one delivery — that includes items for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Bloom Baking Company owner Sarah Darby says the transition has allowed her to keep all the staff on the payroll and working during the metro’s stay-at-home order.

Darby, who previously worked as a nurse for 15 years, knows firsthand the importance of keeping health care workers healthy. When a customer orders an all-day meal kit, Bloom also sends a meal to health care workers at North Kansas City Hospital, Truman Medical Centers, Menorah Medical Center and Saint Luke’s Hospital.

The company has also launched “Feed the Frontline,” a website where Kansas Citians can “purchase” meals that will also go to local hospitals.

We've created a Facebook group, We're Open Kansas City, where members of the community can post businesses serving their community.
