KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A local radio personality is taking to the street to keep Kansas Citians fed.

Kelly Urich normally hosts the morning show on 94.9 KCMO, but he is currently riding his bike through Kansas City to raise money for Harvesters.

He asked listeners to donate 50 cents for each mile he rides and has already raised more than $7,000.

"I think people want media people to get off their butts and work for it, and that's kind of what I'm doing today. 100 miles. I haven't trained, but I'm going to give it my best and put the pedal to the metal," Urich said.

He said his best friend lost his job this week because of COVID-19, which is motivating him to raise the money.

"The opportunity came up for this a week ago," Urich said. "The Harvesters people called and said, 'Listen, we need money. A buck equals a meal for people.' And I said, 'Oh, we can do that.' And then you think social distancing, you normally do a concert or something, right? I can get on a bicycle, that's pretty cool."
