LIBERTY, Mo. — If you live or work in the Liberty area, you know just how busy and congested the 152/I-35 interchange can get.
“There’s a lot of crashes in this area and people are just frustrated with the time it takes to get through this area,” MoDOT Resident Engineer, Shelie Daniel said.
45,000 drivers pass through every day.
“Right now the bridge is a bottleneck where there's three lanes on both sides of the interchange, but there's only two lanes on the bridge,” Daniel said.
The majorly-congested area in Liberty, Missouri, will be getting some major updates: additional lanes, upgraded signals and added sidewalks.
MoDOT will start construction on the 152 Hwy Bridge over I-35 in 2019.
“This project is going to be a great improvement for the area,” Daniel said. “People have been anticipating this project for years.”
Public meetings have already taken place on the $30 million project.
MoDOT, The Cities of Liberty and Kansas City, Missouri are involved in the project.
During construction, the bridge will be closed for about four months.
“I would just ask people to be patient next summer when the bridge is closed and use those alternate routes, but keep coming to this area,” Daniel said.
The entire project is expected to be completed by 2020.
