Eight hospitalized after head-on crash in Kansas City, Kansas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Eight people were taken to area hospitals, several with critical injuries, after a crossover, head-on crash Thursday in Kansas City, Kansas.

Police said the crash happened about 3 p.m. at South 7th Street and Osage Avenue.

A Honda Element traveling south on 7th Street crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a Mercury Mountaineer, police said.

There were seven people in the Mountaineer, including several juveniles who hadsuffered critical injuries, police said.

The driver of the Element also sustained critical injuries.

All occupants of both vehicles were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

KCKPD announced Fridy morning that all parties were "in stable after receiving care" and that the accident remains under investigation.

The street was closed for more than an hour while the Traffic Support/Critical Collision Response Team reconstructed the crash. The road had reopened by 8 p.m.
