KCPD investigate fatal crash as homicide

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a building Monday afternoon in Kansas City, Missouri, and police are investigating the incident as a homicide.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. at Swope Parkway and Benton Boulevard, around the same time that officers responded to the area of 46th and Benton on the sound of gunshots.

According to authorities, the vehicle was traveling southbound on Swope Parkway when it ran off the road, through a fence and into the building.

A KCPD spokesperson said officers determined that the vehicle that crashed matched the description of a vehicle from the shots fired call.

Officers and medical personnel determined that the male driver of the vehicle had died from apparent gunshot wounds.

Anyone who was in the area of the shots fired call or the crash site and has information about the incidents is asked to contact homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the anonymous TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. Information that leads to an arrest could result in a reward of up to $25,000.
