KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after a one-car crash split a car in half early Sunday morning.
The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said excessive speeds are to blame for the crash on Shawnee Mission Parkway at West 55th Street in Fairway at 3 a.m.
Officials later identified the driver as 28-year-old David Lawrence Hutchinson.
Authorities said the car appears to have hit a tree on the side of the road and split in half.

The crash shut down westbound Shawnee Mission Parkway for several hours.
