KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after a car crashed and caught fire Tuesday in Miami County.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Miami County EMS and the Fontana and Osawatomie fire departments responded at 9:35 p.m. to 359th Street and Harmony Road, where a vehicle that was fully involved was located in a ditch.
Once fire crews extinguished the blaze, officers located a deceased person in the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said in a news release that an initial investigation determined that the driver, heading east on 359th Street, veered off the right side of the road and struck a culvert. It’s unclear at this time what caused the fire, the release stated.
Further investigation is needed to determine the driver's identity.
