1 dead in single-vehicle crash in Independence

UPDATE, Aug. 27 | The victim killed in the crash was identified as 39-year-old Angela M. Combs of Independence.

ORIGINAL STORY, Aug. 22 | One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash Saturday in Independence.

Police said the crash occurred around 4:20 p.m. east of South Crysler Avenue on West 23rd Street.

A 2012 Scion XB, traveling west on West 23rd Street, "collided with the railroad bridge," according to a news release.

The driver died after being transported to Centerpoint Hospital.

Police said in the release that the driver appeared to not be wearing a seatbelt.

The driver's identity has not yet been released.

The crash still is under investigation.
