KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 40-year-old Blue Springs man suffered "moderate" injuries when two boats collided Sunday on a Jackson County lake.

Missouri State Highway Patrol marine troopers responded around 5:30 p.m. when “one wake boat drove into another boat” on Blue Springs Lake, MSHP officials said in a tweet.

The injured man — who was taken to an area hospital, MSHP said — was traveling at idle speed in a 1987 Bayliner when a 2018 Malibu driven by a 23-year-old Lee's Summit man began traveling straight at his boat.

That driver of the Bayliner tried to turn out of the way, but was unable to avoid the collision, according to an MSHP Online Boat/Drowning Incident Report.

Both boats suffered only minor damage.
