1 man killed in deadly shooting near Swope Park

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man died in a shooting Friday just south of Swope Park.

Kansas City, Missouri, police were on an unrelated call nearby when they heard multiple gunshots in the area of Meyer Blvd and Swope Parkway.

When they arrived to the area, they found a vehicle just inside the main entrance to the park. Inside the vehicle was a man who appeared to have been shot. EMS responded to the scene and declared the man deceased.

This is already the 76th homicide in KCMO in 2020, which is far more than the same time in any of the last four years. There were 58 homicides at this time in both 2017 and 2019, 51 in 2018, and 45 in 2016.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 474-TIPS. A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
