1 person dies after train crashes into vehicle in Gardner

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is dead after a train collided with a car Wednesday in Gardner.

The accident occurred about 3:50 p.m. when the man's car was hit as it tried to cross the railroad tracks at Waverly Road just south of Old U.S. 56.

The victim was identified Thursday as 23-year-old Sebastian E. Joseph.

The train pushed the car about a half-mile before it came to a stop in the 400 block of South Poplar Street.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, the cause of which remains unclear.
