ORIGINAL STORY, July 8 | A woman is dead after being struck by a tractor trailer Wednesday night in Kansas City, Missouri.
Police responded shortly after 10 p.m. to northbound Interstate 435 near Front Street where the incident occurred.
Authorities say a freightliner was getting onto I-435 when the driver looked over his shoulder to check traffic before merging. The driver says that when he turned back, a woman was in the road in front of his vehicle. He was unable to change lanes because there were other vehicles in that lane. He struck the woman with the left front of the truck.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.
The driver of the semi-tractor was not injured.
