13 year-old boy killed, 5 others injured in UTV accident north of Topeka

UPDATE, July 6 | The 13-year-old killed in the crash was identified as Iziah Ansley Martinez of Fargo, North Dakota. He was a passenger on the UTV. The sheriff's office is investigating whether alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

ORIGINAL STORY, July 5 | A 13-year-old boy was killed, and five other people injured, in a UTV accident in Jackson County, Kansas.

Sheriff Tim Morse said that shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday, two UTV's were traveling side-by-side a half of a mile west of S. Road on 318th Road in Northern Jackson County, about 45 minutes north of Topeka.

One of the UTV's occupied by six people ran off the roadway, flipping over and ejecting a 13-year-old boy. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four others were transported to Stormont Vail Medical Center, and one to Sabetha Hospital.

One person was listed in serious condition, three with moderate injuries, and one with minor injuries.
