The owner of a Cajun restaurant in the 18th and Vine District pleaded guilty Monday to his part in a large cocaine distribution ring.

Paul Danny Gosserand, 57, of Kansas City, Kansas, made the plea Monday in U.S. Federal Court in Kansas City, Missouri.

The plea deal is for Gosserand to serve seven to eight years in federal prison without parole.

The case dates to at least May 2011, when a confidential informant went to the restaurant to buy cocaine, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Kansas City.

The informant met with Jean Stephens, the ex-wife of Gosserand, who worked at the restaurant.

Stephens told the informant the cocaine would cost $32,000 per kilogram, the news release states.

The two went to Stephens' car and she gave him the cocaine.

About 90 minutes later, Gosserand met with the informant at the restaurant, according to the news release.

Gosserand said he needed the money that night or he would be killed.

Federal agents went to Stephens' house the next day and found thousands of dollars in cash and gold coins, as well as of 2,400 grams of powder cocaine, according to the news release.

The news release states Stephens told the agents she thought Gosserand made more money in drug sales than at his restaurant.

Stephens pleaded guilty last November. She will be sentenced August 8.
