KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two boys were rescued from a fire in an Overland Park apartment Tuesday morning.
One was not seriously injured, but the other was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to the Overland Park Fire Department.
OPFD said they were called to the Grant 47 Apartments along with the Lenexa Fire Department around 8 a.m. when neighbors called 911 to report smoke coming from a second floor unit.
Firefighters entered the apartment and extinguished a “small cooking fire.”
The boys were unconscious when firefighters found them, though one regained consciousness and was able to walk to the ambulance.
The other, however, remained unconscious in critical condition.
Fire damage was present only in the kitchen, with smoke damage throughout the apartment.
Investigators are working to find the cause of the fire and determine why the boys weren’t able to evacuate.
