KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two dogs found inside a Miami County storage unit over the weekend may have been in there for up to a month with minimal care, authorities said.
Shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday, Miami County sheriff’s deputies were called to a storage unit in the 23300 block of West 255th Street. The person who called told police they could hear barking coming from inside a unit.
Deputies located the storage unit and could hear the barking. When they entered the unit, they found two dogs in separate kennels.
The Paola Police Department’s Animal Control Unit transported the two dogs to a local veterinarian clinic in critical condition, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office has identified a suspect, who is cooperating.
The incident is being investigated as an animal cruelty case.
