INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — U.S. 24 was shut down at North Kiger Road in Independence following a fatal hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.
Police were called to the scene just before 5:30 a.m.
Independence police said a 30-year-old woman was killed when an unknown vehicle left the road and struck her as she was walking along the shoulder. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Authorities later identified her as 30-year-old Misty Collins of Independence.
The driver did not stop. Surveillance video from the area captured the incident and shows the suspect vehicle, which appears to be a black, older-model pickup truck. Police said it's possible a 1995 to 2002 Chevrolet S-10 or GMC Sonoma.
