KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The 25th annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure has been canceled this afternoon due to weather.

Just after 8:30 Saturday morning officials released a statement saying, " Due to weather and out of concern fo the safety and security of our Race participants, vendors, sponsors and volunteers we are canceling the 2018 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure."

The 5K run/walk and 1Mile walk were to be held at Black and Veatch 11401 Lamar in Overland Park.

Opening ceremonies were set to begin at 3:30, with the races beginning at 4p.m.

The race raises critical funds to support awareness, education, screenings, treatment and research, and is Kansas City's biggest breast cancer celebration.

More than $21 million dollars has been raised since 1994.
