KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three people are facing a number of charges after a Blue Springs woman said she was assaulted overnight in a cemetery in Cass County, with her vehicle later found burned in a different area.

Around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Cass County sheriff’s deputies and Harrisonville police responded to the Orient Cemetery on Elm Street in Harrisonville. A 35-year-old Blue Springs woman said she had gone to the cemetery with a friend and that while they were there, her friend and two others assaulted her.

She said she was able to escape and hid in a wooded area. She was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

The three suspects took some of her property and left in her vehicle, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

About an hour later, the woman’s vehicle was found on fire near South Kauffman Road and East 275th Street.

Harrisonville police later arrested the three suspects at an apartment. They were charged by the Cass County Prosecutor’s Office with the following:

  • Maggie Jestice, 32, of Harrisonville, was charged with first-degree domestic assault, armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle, knowing burning or exploding and tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution. Her bond was set at $50,000.
  • Dustin Richardson, 31, of Lancaster, Kansas, and Glen Downton, 59, of Harrisonville, were each charged with first-degree assault, armed criminal action, first-degree robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle, knowing burning or exploding and tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution. Bond was set at $50,000 for each.

All three are being held in the Cass County Jail, the sheriff's office said Friday morning.
