3 Wichita police officers injured due to 'modified, loaded shotgun'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Three officers from the Wichita Police Department were injured Saturday afternoon while checking a residence after a "modified, loaded shotgun" discharged as officers entered the home.

Officers responded shortly after 4 p.m. to a home in the 14000 block of South St. Francis after a homeowner reported damage to a vacant property they owned, according to a news release.

The homeowners believed someone might have been in the residence, the release stated.

Upon entering the home, officers "reported hearing an explosion" and three officers suffered injuries, police said. The officers were transported to an area hospital. One has since been released.

No one was located in the home.

The Kansas City ATF division and FBI invetigators are assisting the department in this incident.
