5 killed in I-70 crash near Maple Hill, Kansas

UPDATE 4:53 p.m. | The victims who died in the crash have been identified by KHP as Armando David Mascote, 20, of Council Grove; Jacinto Sanchez-Diaz, 33, of Topeka; Jose Luis Sanchez-Diaz, 29, of Topeka; Francisco Daniel Rosa-Mejia, 18, of Topeka; and Cervando Flores, 19, of Topeka.

Santos Narcizo Mendoza Capetillo, 37, of Lillington, N.C., was transported to an area hospital with suspected serious injuries, according to a KHP crash report.

ORIGINAL STORY | The Kansas Highway Patrol said five people were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 near Maple Hill Sunday morning.

According to KHP, about 6:40 a.m., a Ford F-150 pickup truck was eastbound in the westbound lanes. It then struck a van.

A person in the truck and four people in the van were killed. At least one person suffered critical injuries.

I-70 WB was re-routed to Highway 24 for several hours, while the investigation was underway.
