6 killed, 1 seriously injured in fiery Lawrence crash

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported six people were killed in a fiery crash in Lawrence Thursday night.

The crash happened around 6:40 p.m. on U.S. 40 at mile marker 385, just west of U.S. 59.

According to the sheriff's office, a Ford Fusion and a GMC collided head-on and were both on fire when deputies arrived.

The driver of the GMC was burned and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. She was the only occupant of that vehicle.

The Ford Fusion was completely burned and all six occupants were killed.

The names of those killed have not been released at this time and deputies have not said what led to the crash.
