KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Seven people are displaced after lightning struck an independent living facility in Lenexa on Saturday night.

A call came in for a structure fire just before 9 p.m., and officials said that lightning hit the backside of the roof of Westchester Village Independent Living. The strike created a small hole that activated sprinklers.

Eight units -- seven occupied, one unoccupied -- were affected, according to the battalion chief on scene.

There does not appear to be any fire damage, but there is water damage from the sprinklers, according to officials.

Overland Park, Shawnee and Lenexa fire department crews responded to the scene.
