KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 7-year-old girl and a teenage boy were injured in a shooting Sunday evening near Gillham Plaza and Linwood Boulevard in Kansas City, Missouri.

Officers were dispatched to the area around 6:15 p.m. on a reported shooting and found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his ankle.

He was with his mom and two younger siblings at a gas station in the area.

When the mother and two younger children went inside, the teenage boy remained at the pump, where he got into a verbal altercation with someone in the parking lot.

The two parties exchanged gunfire before the shooter fled the scene.

While at the scene, KCPD officers were notified that a second shooting victim — a 7-year-old girl who was in her parents’ vehicle and was hit by a stray bullet as they drove by on Gillham — arrived at a local hospital.

The girl had been shot in both legs and was reported to be in serious but stable condition, according to police.
