KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An 80-year-old woman was killed and a 2-month-old baby was injured Tuesday in a Platte County crash, authorities said.

The wreck happened shortly after 4 p.m. at the Missouri 45 Spur and Stillings Road, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

The woman, a resident of Platte City, was driving a 2017 Mitsubishi SUV northbound and crossing the center of the intersection, when the vehicle was struck by a 2002 Ram 2500 traveling westbound on Missouri 45 Spur.

The other vehicle was driven by a 65-year-old McLouth, Kansas, man, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman was transported to an area hospital, where she later died. The 2-month-old baby, who was a passenger in her vehicle, was transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital for treatment. The extent of the child’s injuries is unknown.

The sheriff’s office said the infant was properly secured in a car seat and the 80-year-old woman was wearing a seat belt.

The crash is being investigated by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team.
