KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A 9-year-old boy and a 29-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri, were killed early Tuesday morning when their SUV rear-ended a semi trailer in DeKalb County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Around 3:30 a.m., troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash at an intersection along U.S. 36 in Cameron, Missouri.
The SUV overturned and landed upside down, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, 29-year-old Desari Lathrop, and 9-year-old Savion Spearman-Lathrop were pronounced dead on the scene.
A 3-year-old girl in the SUV suffered minor injuries. Troopers said she was the only of the three to be using a safety device.
