$999 home deadline fast approaching

Remember the game show “Let’s Make A Deal?”

Well, Monty Hall would be so proud of the Kansas City Missouri Land Bank

Because, here’s the deal: buy a home for $999. That’s right. Less than one thousand smackers.

Instead of looking behind just Door #1 or Door #2 or Door #3, you can look behind Door #1-50!

Fifty homes in the Heart of Kansas City are up for sale.

According to the Executive Director of the Land Bank, Ted Anderson, these are homes that were abandoned by their owners, didn’t sell at back-taxes sales and are ready for rehab.

Most of the homes are in the Blue Hills/Swope area of the city and are structurally sound.

However, the Land Bank estimates a buyer will spend about 25 thousand, over time, getting the house up to snuff.

There are qualifications that must be met including access to $8500 which can be used to get things going right away.

The exterior of the homes need to be looking good within the first four months.

The deadline for applications is fast approaching: May 1.

Anderson says this kind of sale, which the Land Bank has been doing for a number of years, achieves many things.

First, it is a great way for a family to get into a home of their own at a low price.

Second, it helps neighborhoods grow and prosper.

And, third, it puts the home back on the tax rolls which benefits the entire city.

At $999, it may remind you of another game show: “The Price is Right.”
