Brace yourselves, there's a new way to show support for your favorite college basketball team and it all has to do with brackets.

No not those brackets, these brackets:

"If you are fan and you want to put a Jayhawk on your front teeth, we can make that happen," said Leawood orthodontist and KU alum, Dr. Jeff Thompson.

Thompson is putting a spin on the braces brackets he offers the patients who come to his office.

"Most [people] wear braces for 18 to 24 months," explained the orthodontist. "For that [person] who is a big KU fan, they'll be a KU fan for life, so 18 months is no big deal. They'll be proud to wear it on their teeth just as they are proud to wear it on their shirts and hats. This is just one more way for a fan to show how committed they are."

Omaha-based Wild Smiles developed the mascot braces. When Thompson heard about it, he decided to bring the Jayhawk shaped brackets to Kansas City to give fans a new way to express themselves. Right now, his office is the only place in the metro offering the service.

"You might have to struggle through football season a little bit, not smile quite as much, but during basketball season for sure," he joked.

It's a new way for sports fans to literally put their team spirit where their mouths are.

Soon, he'll offer K-State Power Cats braces brackets, and he hopes to have a Mizzou Tigers option available one day.

Dr. Ken Dillehay offers the brackets in Wichita, and Dr. Daniel Ranjbar offers them in Lawrence.
