KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Parkwood Pool on 9th and Quindaro was supposed to open over Memorial Day weekend, but due to a lifeguard shortage, the pool had to delay its original opening date.
The Wyandotte Unified Government told 41 Action News one of the reasons there was a shortage was due to lack of transportation to the pool.
Although there was a high interest in working at the pool, there was a limited number of students who knew how to swim.
Competing jobs such as retail and fast food chains were also an issue.
On the Missouri side, Kansas city is also looking for lifeguards. They accept applications all summer long.
KCMO Parks and Recreation had to delay pool openings due to weather and low water temperatures.
While the KCMO spray playgrounds are open, the community pools and water parks are not.
According to the KCMO Parks and Rec website, they'll open once the water temperature is above 70 degrees and the school districts where the pools are located in are finished with the school year.
Parkwood Pool in Kansas City, Kansas, will open at noon on Tuesday.
