KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An Amber Alert was issued Thursday evening and canceled moments later after authorities in Lee's Summit recovered a stolen car with a 1-year-old child in the back seat.
Around 7 p.m., the Missouri State Highway Patrol issued the alert for the 1-year-old girl, who was believed to be with an unknown man in a black 2010 Dodge Journey.
A spokesman for the Lee's Summit Police Department said that shortly after the alert was issued, police found the car and the child. The suspect was not located.
Officers responded to a 7-Eleven convenience store in the 900 block of Southwest Oldham Parkway on a reported stolen car around 6 p.m. The 1-year-old child had been left inside the car while the parents went inside the store, according to a news release from police.
A white Ford Edge with Missouri registration JE7F6T, driven by a woman with blond hair that had red streaks in it, was seen in the area near the time of the theft.
After the Amber Alert was canceled, detectives were working to process the scene and collect surveillance evidence to identify the "suspects that remain at large," police said.
