KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Extra security will be present on the Blue Valley Northwest High School campus in Overland Park due to a threat that was made toward the school.
School administrators notified families of the threat Sunday night in an email.
The email did not detail what the threat was, just that a threat of violence was made against the school.
Overland Park police were notified and made an arrest.
According to police, a student received a SnapChat video of another student rapping about shooting. That video did not mention any names or schools.
Another student then recorded the video to his SnapChat and referenced the high school. That student was taken into custody.
The student who created the rap is not in custody.
Administrators said extra police will be on campus to make sure students and staff feel safe.

Husky families,
Earlier this evening we learned there was a threat of violence against our school community. We immediately notified local authorities to determine the credibility of the threat. We were informed tonight by police that a suspect is in custody. We will continue to cooperate with the Overland Park Police Department in their investigation. On Monday, you will see extra police presence on campus to ensure that our students, staff and families feel safe. Thank you to those who shared concerns about what they saw or heard. We are a close community with many trusted relationships. It is because of these relationships that we were aware of the threat and able to ensure the safety of our school family.
Thank you for your support.
